April’s teachers evaluations. What it’s all about!

Hello Everyone!

How are you doing? The weather is getting warmer and the flowers blooming in Japan, probably the best time of the year! If it could only get a little bit warmer…

As you might remember I’ve been telling your earlier about the evaluations we’re holding 4 times a year at Ecom. Do you remember them? I’m sure you do!

Well we’re now in April, and carrying out our second evaluation for 2015, I wanted to let you know more about the founding principles of our evaluations.

Those elements are also in fact the basis of our school’s teaching method and philosophy.

The five points are as below:

  1. Student’s opportunities to speak / mistakes being corrected
    2. Teacher’s attitude (Lateness and missed classes, manner of dress, enthusiasm etc.)
    3. Student’s motivation and enjoyment during lessons
    4. Students thoughts on their progress
    5. Student’s willingness to recommend you to their family and friends

So let’s briefly have a look at what those points are referring to and feel free to self-check yourself according to those points J .

  1. We advise our teachers to speak for 40% of the time and let their student speak for at least 60% of the time, in order to improve their self-confidence. If they don’t earn that confidence in speaking with, neither they’ll be able to use in their personal lives.
  2. Motivating your student goes through your own attitude! For that arriving late or cancelling lessons too much will only make your lessons look less serious and less fruitful, dress smart-casual and prove that you care for your lesson’s quality. How you consider your study time and the importance you give it shows through your clothing and attitude! Finishing on time is also as important as starting on time!
  3. You are responsible of keeping your student’s curiosity and motivation high. Give exercises, vary topics, ask for his opinion, if you don’t have a positive attitude during your lesson your student will feel it and it will only make his motivation decrease or make your lessons look less fruitful…and you don’t want that to happen right?
  4. Discuss with your student a lot about their progress, their needs, how do they feel about their studies? Do they have any concerns? Are they feeling unsure about something? If yes, make sure to be aware about that.
  5. This is a matter of trust, and it is the higher appreciation a student can show you. It might not seem as much, but it is. They don’t only like you, appreciate studying with you, trust in your teaching technics, but would also recommend you to their loved ones, in their names. If you have a 10 here, feel proud J

What is your opinion about that, what are your teaching techniques? Let’s share tips !

All the Best,

Olfa
